Mission Statement

S.U.N.A. is a non-partisan community based organization that works to:

  • Maintain safe attractive neighborhoods which provide a welcoming environment to all residents;
  • Support the renewal of the Philo Road business corridor;
  • Monitor and actively participate in the growth and development of southeast Urbana in a manner that is sensitive to natural areas and surrounding neighborhoods (for example, as pertains to Orchard Downs and the Pell Farm / Pomology Tract);
  • Foster a spirit of community and cooperation among residents and businesses of southeast Urbana.

Thursday, May 27, 2010: SUNA Annual Meeting

SUNA will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, May 27, 2010, in the gym of Yankee Ridge School from 7 to 9 pm.  Mayor Prussing, Chief Bily, Community Development Director Libby Tyler and Alderman Diane Marlin will make brief presentations and be available for questions.

Saturday, April 17, 2010: Don’t Mess with Urbana

The Fourth Annual SUNA Philo Road/Sunnycrest Clean-up will be held from  8 -10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17.   Meet by the defunct Baskin-Robbins on Philo.    Bring gloves.  County Market will provide coffee and water. The city is providing trash bags and a truck.  Sponsored by Ward 7 Alderman Diane Marlin and SUNA.

Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010: SUNA Steering Committee Meeting

SUNA will have a steering committee meeting Thursday, Feb. 4th,  at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at Atlanta Bread Co., 1905 S Neil St., Champaign. Any member of SUNA is invited to attend.

Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009: Meeting with Ameren IP Representatives

In response to residents’ concerns about the frequency of power outages in south Urbana,  a meeting is scheduled with representatives of Ameren IP on  Tuesday, November 10 from 4-6 pm at the Stone Creek Church, corner of Race St. and Windsor Rd, Urbana. The area of concern is bounded by Race St., Windsor Rd, Vine St. and Florida Avenue.

The session will be an open house format.  Company representatives will be present to answer questions and address resident concerns about power service.  We’ll also ask for an overview of  the efforts underway to minimize outages in the future.
