Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009: Meeting with Ameren IP Representatives

In response to residents’ concerns about the frequency of power outages in south Urbana, a meeting is scheduled with representatives of Ameren IP on Tuesday, November 10 from 4-6 pm at the Stone Creek Church, corner of Race St. and Windsor Rd, Urbana. The area of concern is bounded by Race St., Windsor Rd, Vine St. and Florida Avenue.

The session will be an open house format. Company representatives will be present to answer questions and address resident concerns about power service. We’ll also ask for an overview of the efforts underway to minimize outages in the future.

The Urbana School District #116 Facilities Planning Committee is sponsoring a presentation by the Green Building Council, Chicago and Champaign Chapters, on “Building Green Schools” on Thursday, January 8 at 6:30 pm in Room 2199, Urbana High School. Speakers are architects Jean Ascoli and Stuart Brodsky. The program is open to the public. Please use Iowa St. entrance.

Urbana Mayor Laurel Prussing, The Urbana Free Library, and the Urbana Business Association invite the public to attend Magic On Main Street, a celebration of the holiday season in conjunction with Urbana’s 175^th Birthday.
The Urbana Free Library (210 W. Green Street) will host several free events throughout the afternoon:

1:15 P.M.: Enjoy holiday selections sung by the University Laboratory High School Madrigals group while enjoying a slice of the City of Urbana’s birthday cake. (Lewis Auditorium, Ground Floor)

2:00 P.M 3:30 P.M.: Carl Johnson and the New Orleans Jazz Machine play holiday tunes. (Busey-Mills Reading Room, Main Floor)

3:45 P.M.: Performers from the Community Center 4 the Arts perform Green Santa, a live music performance and puppet drama about how pollution and global warming is making life difficult for Santa and his helpers. (Lewis Auditorium, Ground Floor)

4:15 P.M 5:00 P.M..: The Bow-Dacious String Band plays for the holidays. (Ground Floor)

1:00 P.M. 6:00 P.M.: The Urbana Business Association will offer horse-drawn carriage rides around downtown Urbana. Cost: $2/person, $5/family. All proceeds will go to benefit the Eastern Illinois Foodbank.

All day until 6:00 P.M.: Have last-minute shopping to do? Take advantage of Downtown Urbana merchants extended shopping hours! Call the Urbana Business Association at (217) 344-3872 for a list of participating businesses.
