Philo Road Clean-Up
SUNA participates in the annual Philo Road Business District Clean-Up begun by Ward 7 City Council Member Lynne Barnes in June 2005. Volunteers pick up trash along Philo Road between Florida Avenue and Colorado Avenue. The City of Urbana supplies trash bags and a truck to collect the filled bags. County Market, 1819 S. Philo, supplies coffee, water, and doughnuts for volunteers. These efforts have resulted in the installation of a permanent trash receptacle next to the Mass Transit District bus stop on Colorado Avenue.
Summer 2007 Philo Rd. Clean-Up: June 16, 2007
Summer 2008 Philo Rd. Clean-Up: rained out twice

Neigborhood Block Parties
One of the most effective ways to build community spirit and promote safety is to know your neighbors. SUNA sponsors annual Neighborhood Block Party Nights on the Sundays after Labor Day in September.
Guidelines for Hosting Block Parties:
- Enlist the help of a couple of neighbors to serve as host households.
- Suggested time: 4-7 pm
-
Identify the households/streets you want to include.
-
Distribute an invitation door-to-door.
-
Ask neighbors to bring a dish to share and lawn chairs.
-
Host households can provide grills for cooking and serving tables.
-
Set up in your front or back yard or driveway. DO NOT BLOCK THE STREETS!
- SUNA will provide each party with lemonade mix and name badges!
Please volunteer to host a 2009 Neighborhood Block Party! Contact a SUNA coordinator! Block Party Nights for September 2009 are the last three Sundays in September.
